When most people think of freedom, they assume the definition of freedom being the freewill to choose, but the Bible has a very different definition. Biblical freedom is freedom from the power of sin in our lives, and freedom to now live for God.

The definition of biblical freedom is simply the power to live a life that pleases God. Before Christ, we were dead in our trespasses and unable to please God. Ephesians 2:1-2 states, “And you were dead in the trespasses and
sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world.” Under the bondage of sin and death, it is impossible to serve God. However, being set free in Christ, we are liberated from sin's hold and now able and desiring to please Him.

Romans 6:17-18 declares, “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” This passage emphasizes the shift from bondage to freedom, where true freedom is found in serving God and living righteously.
